Prof. Dr. Tekin SUSAM
Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture
Definition of Engineering
Engineering can be defined as all of the design, production, operation and improvement activities carried out to meet all kinds of products, tools, structures and processes that people need by using the resources found in nature, the theoretical and experimental principles offered by basic sciences, as well as human hand and mind skills and experience. In all engineering activities, guaranteeing user and employee safety, protecting the environment, reducing costs and ensuring aesthetics are complementary issues to be considered.
Engineering Education in our Faculty
Our faculty offers undergraduate education in the disciplines of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Food Engineering, Mapping Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering. All engineering undergraduate programs are 4-year programs consisting of 8 semesters of 30 ECTS each, equal to 240 ECTS in total. Undergraduate programs consist of compulsory courses, elective courses and internships. Compulsory courses are grouped as basic sciences, basic engineering and field courses. Elective courses consist of technical and non-technical courses and offer students the opportunity to further develop themselves in the subjects they are interested in. In order for our students to have the knowledge and experience required by the age, great importance is attached to the teaching of engineering computer software and laboratory or field applications in undergraduate programs.
Minor and Double Major Programs are carried out in our faculty. Every year, our students benefit from student exchange programs in Europe within the framework of the "Socrates-Erasmus" program and in different universities in Turkey within the framework of the Farabi program. Our students are expected to take an active role in student clubs and priority is given to events and trips organized by student clubs. Together with the advisor academicians, our students carry out projects on the subjects they are interested in by receiving financial support from TUBITAK and our University and present their products and findings on project days.
Infrastructure Facilities of our Faculty
Our faculty has a total closed area of 20.350 m², including 10.600 m² education building (Ground + 4 floors), 2250 m² Dean's Office building and 7.500 m² Academic Staff building. In addition to classrooms and lecture halls, each department has student and research laboratories in the education building.
Engineering Business Areas
Students who graduate from the undergraduate programs of our faculty can work in the fields of production, planning, supervision, marketing, research and development, and management in public and private sectors. In addition, as individual entrepreneurs, they can establish their own businesses by receiving financial support from different institutions, especially the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology and TUBITAK, and they can also provide engineering consultancy services.
With the rapid development of our country's economy and industry, new business areas are opening up for engineers. The continuous development of technology adds a dynamic structure to the engineering profession, increasing the excitement of engineers in their work and increasing their professional satisfaction. With the growth of the global economy, the increase in the investments of multinational companies in our country and the increase in international contracting, marketing and production activities of domestic companies provide engineers with the opportunity to work in multicultural environments and to get to know other countries.
