Bioengineering is a science that forms the basis of the systems on which the biotechnology industry is based and engineering principles are applied including biology. Bioprocess engineering, genetic engineering, tissue engineering, molecular engineering, as a branch of science in which biological engineering, molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, cell metabolism, and biological techniques as a result of rapid advances in basic engineering and materials sciences are applied to living systems and the problems encountered in them. It consists of sub-branches such as metabolic engineering and biomedical engineering.

In our Department of Genetics and Bioengineering, teaching and research activities are carried out in 5 practice and research laboratories with 5 classrooms at undergraduate and graduate level.

In our department, there is Applied Engineering Education known as INTERN ENGINEERING application. The intern engineering program applied brings a new approach to vocational education by significantly increasing the students' professional awareness and competencies, and provides engineers with the knowledge and equipment to meet the needs of companies. With this program, our senior students, who meet the application requirements, spend their last semesters (about 4 months without interruption) in the field in the industry and step into engineering. Intern Engineers spend the entire period of time specified in the industry, such as an engineer, and fully comply with the company's working conditions. Our students are trained as ready to enter the industry as engineers by adding the applications in the industry to the theoretical and practical training they have received in the Department. Intern Engineering education plays an important role in university-industry cooperation.

10 faculty members with very different educational backgrounds from basic sciences (chemistry, biology, microbiology) and engineering (bioengineering, chemical engineer) are working in the Department of Genetics and Bioengineering in Tokat Gaziosmanpasa University. 90% of our lecturers are very valuable scientists who have foreign experience and have completed their undergraduate and graduate education at various eminent universities of our country.

Our department accepts students with numerical points in university entrance exam. The students of the Department of Bioengineering are trained in the fields of basic biology and chemistry as well as field courses and engineering courses.

Within the framework of the Erasmus, students are exchanged with countries such as Poland, Portugal, Hungary, Belgium, and within the framework Farabi, student exchange programs are used in various universities such as Ege University and Yıldız Technical University. In addition to their minor and double major programs, they also have the qualifications in Mechatronics, Molecular Biology and Genetics and Food Engineering.

In addition, our students participate in Bioengineering Student Club activities and engage in social activities.



At the Higher Education Executive Board meeting on 11.12.2019; Bioengineering program graduates in Human Medical Product Production Facilities, Veterinary Medical Product Production Facilities, Industrial Active Material and Chemical Production Facilities, Herbal and Biotechnological Product Production Facilities, Medical Material Production Facilities (implants, etc.), by fermentation (yogurt, vinegar pickles, etc.). It has been decided that it is appropriate to work in the Food Enterprises that make production, in the establishments operated in Biotechnological Packaging Production Facilities.

In this context our students who are graduated as a Bioengineer from the undergraduate program of Bioengineering have been working in a wide range of industries ranging from food, agriculture and health to the environmental sector. In addition, biotechnological methods of food materials, beverages, energy sources (hydrogen, ethanol, biogas), drugs (antibiotics, vitamins, hormones) and biochemical substances (proteins and amino acids, enzymes, organic acids and solvents, pesticides and various polymers) biological systems they can take part in planning, research and application studies of compatible materials and R & D departments of plant-based enterprises.

Technology Transfer Office, Entrepreneurship and Corporate Unit and Tokat Teknopark A.Ş. in the incubation center, our students are supported with the necessary incentives to establish their own companies.
