Description of Mechatronics Engineering

Nowadays, simple machines and production methods started to replace by complex systems of machines and devices that can perform multiple operations without human intervention in order to achieve high performance with top quality products or services. The concept of “Mechatronics” emerged as a result of this change; expresses the unity of machinery, electrical-electronics, computer and control disciplines. Mechatronics Engineering is an interdisciplinary engineering branch that deals with the design, construction, use of products and production systems.

Mechatronics Engineering Undergraduate Program

The Undergraduate Program of the Department of Mechatronics Engineering consists of 8 semesters, each with a total of 30 ECTS credits and a four-year program equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS. The compulsory courses in the Department of Mechatronics Engineering are grouped into basic sciences, engineering  and vocational courses. In addition to the compulsory courses, there are also technical and non-technical elective courses.  In addition, our students, "Socrates-Erasmus" program within the framework of Europe and in the framework of Farabi program also benefit from student exchange programs in different universities in Turkey.

Department of Mechatronics Engineering

Teaching and research activities in the department are carried out by 7 academic staff in 4 application laboratory with 4 classrooms. In the application courses, students make many applications related to Electrical-Electronics, Machinery, Computer, Control and Robotics disciplines which constitute the concept of Mechatronics.

Department of Mechatronics Engineering receives students with MF4 score type and approximately 60 new students are registered each year. The number of undergraduate students who continue their education is approximately 200. In addition to educational activities, various activities are carried out within the body of clubs and communities operating throughout the department and the university. 

Mechatronics Engineering Business Areas

Graduates of the Department of Mechatronics Engineering are employed in the fields of Industrial Automation, Automotive, Biomedical, Software, Manufacturing, Transport and Space-Defense Industries. The main application areas are; Production Systems (CNC, NC, CIM, Extrusion), Robots (welding robots, transport robots, medical robots, humanoid robots), Control systems (level, pressure, temperature, flow control systems), Automotive (airbag, vehicle safety systems) ABS, ASR, ESP), Industrial automation (barcode systems, production line devices), Defense industry (unmanned weapons, missile systems, bomb disposal robots, mine scanning robots, automatically directed vehicles), Building automation (security systems, automatic air conditioning systems, automatic door systems), Medical applications (magnetic resonance MRI, microscopic devices, ultrasonic probes etc.), Aerospace engineering (autopilot, unmanned aerial vehicles, space research robots), Image and sound processing (Object recognition, autofocus devices, with sound controlled devices), Laser optical systems (barcode), intelligent measuring devices (calibration devices, testing and measurement) sensors), Household products (washing, dishwashers). Apart from this, as an individual entrepreneur, they can establish their own businesses and provide engineering consultancy services.

Mission of Mechatronics Engineering Department, Gaziosmanpaşa University, is to educate Mechatronics Engineers who know and use scientific methods in the light of national and universal values, interpret the results obtained, integrate technology effectively with the profession, design by bringing together different disciplines and transform their gains into social and industrial benefits.

Our Vision

The Vision of Mechatronics Engineering Department is to educate engineers who are confident, have multi-dimensional and independent thinking ability, a sense of social responsibility and to be a department which have competence in the world in the creation of modern education and research strategies and implementation of technology.
